A simple dialogue
Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue. Write it out and perform it.
- What a beautiful cat! Is it a he or a she?
- This is Daisy, a she.
- Hello Daisy. Her eyes are so blue and her fur is so soft!
- Daisy is the most expensive cat in the shop.
- I like the other cats, but I love Daisy.
- Do you like this one? He is called Alfie.
- Hello Alfie. You are bigger than Daisy, but your eyes are not so blue.
- And this one is called Kim.
- Hello Kim! You are so pretty! You are smaller than Daisy and you have lovely green eyes.
- Kim is much cheaper than Daisy.
- Really? How much is Daisy?
- Three hundred euros.
- No way! Three hundred euros for a toy cat? That is much too expensive!
Use these phrases to translate the dialogue.
¡Hola Kim! ¡Eres tan bonita! Eres más pequeña que Daisy y tienes unos ojos verdes preciosos.
¡No puede ser! ¿Trescientos euros por un gato de juguete? ¡Eso es demasiado caro!

MAKING COMPARISONS IN SPANISH
Equality comparison (as… as)
To say something is as… as in Spanish, use tan + adjective + como:
- Ella es tan bonita como su madre = She is as pretty as her mother
Inequality comparison (more… than / less… than)
To say something is more… than or less… than in Spanish, use:
- más + adjective + que (more… than)
- menos + adjective + que (less… than)
Examples:
- Mi perro es más perezoso que mi gato = My dog is lazier than my cat
- Este ejercicio es menos difícil que el otro = This exercise is less difficult than the other
Using superlatives (the most / the least)
Superlatives are used to indicate that someone or something has the highest or lowest degree of a certain quality.
To say someone is the most or the least in Spanish, use el más / la más (the most) or el menos / la menos (the least) followed by the adjective. The article (el or la) agrees with the gender of the noun.
- Ella es la más inteligente de la escuela = She is the most intelligent one in the school
- Sara es la más joven de la familia = Sara is the youngest in the family
This structure can be extended with “de” (of/in) to specify the group being referenced (e.g., de la familia – of the family).
- Pablo es el más inteligente de la clase = Pablo is the most intelligent in the class

Write short sentences. Keep them as simple as you can.
Use a translation tool to put them into Spanish.
Write them out, then check them with your teacher. Present them to a friend, teaching your friend any new Spanish, and making sure they learn it!
