A simple dialogue
Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue. Write it out and perform it.

Verbs that get mixed up
Saber and conocer both mean to know. Conocer also means to meet or meet up.

When you go on a trip you might know a lot of information, and for that use saber. You might be acquainted with the place, and for that use conocer. If you know people, use conocer a.
- No sé donde está la parada de aútobus. = I don’t know where the bus stop is.
- Conozco Madrid. = I know Madrid.
- No conozco al conductor. = I don’t know the driver.
- Conocí a mi novio online. = I met my boyfriend online.
Ser and estar both mean to be.

When you go on a trip, you might want to know what a place is like, and for that use ser. You might want to ask where a place is, and for that use estar. This is a big topic. There is a lot to learn about the different uses of ser and estar, so it is best to do a little at a time.
- Es un lugar asombroso. ¡Es tan grande! = It’s an amazing place. It’s so big!
- ¿Dónde está el café más cerca de aquí? = Where is the nearest café to here?

Write short sentences. Keep them as simple as you can.

Write them out, then check them with your teacher. Present them to a friend, teaching your friend any new Spanish, and making sure they learn it!
