A simple dialogue
Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue. Write it out and perform it.

- My pen is blue, is that OK?
- Of course! Is your book interesting?
- My work is very interesting.
- Do you have many Spanish books?
- Yes, but I don’t need Spanish books to study.
- The class is fun because Duolingo is great.
- Yes, and it is fun to write about our lives too. I am happy because I can speak a little bit of Spanish now.

GENDER AGREEMENT
In Spanish, nouns, articles, and adjectives must agree in gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural).
Every noun in Spanish has a gender: masculine or feminine.
Masculine nouns often end in -o. The word for the is el. The word for a is un.
- El libro = The book Un libro = A book
- El bolígrafo = The pen Un bolígrafo = A pen
Feminine nouns often end in -a. The word for the is la. The word for a is una.
- La clase = The class Una clase = A class
- La pregunta = The question Una pregunta = A question
There are exceptions, so you should memorize the gender of each new noun you learn.
- El día = The day.
- La radio = The radio
Words for this also agree with the gender of the noun. Este is masculine, and esta is feminine.
- Este colegio = This school
- Esta escuela = This school
When describing professions or relationships, the gender must match the person being described, although some words do not vary.
- El profesor = The teacher (male)
- La profesora = The teacher (female)
- El/ La estudiante = The student (male/ female)
Adjectives that end in an -o describing masculine nouns, change to end with an -a when describing feminine nouns.
- Es un profesor divertido = He is a fun teacher
- Es una clase divertida = It is a fun class
Journal prompts
Write short sentences. Keep them as simple as you can.
Use a translation tool to put them into Spanish.
Write them out, then check them with your teacher. Present them to a friend, teaching your friend any new Spanish, and making sure they learn it!
