A simple dialogue
Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue. Write it out and perform it.
- What do you normally like to do in summer?
- We don’t like to go far away on holiday.
- Do you prefer to stay at home?
- We spend some of our time off at home, but we also visit places that aren’t very far away.
- What do you do when you have time off?
- I like to walk on the beach. My daughter doesn’t like the beach
- What does she like doing?
- She loves running in the park with her friends.
- Me too. I really like park runs. They’re great!

AQUEL, AQUELLA, AQUELLOS, AQUELLAS
Demonstrative adjectives are used to describe a noun by indicating where something is located in relation to the speaker and listener.

EXAMPLES
- Este es mi coche = This is my car
- Esa es la respuesta = That is the answer
- Aquellos son mis amigos = Those over there are my friends
- Esos zapatos son caros = Those shoes are expensive
- Aquella casa está muy lejos = That house over there is very far
Aquello is the neuter form of the demonstrative aquel.
- Aquello no tiene sentido = That doesn’t make sense (No noun is specified, so it can’t have a gender).
GUSTAR
The verb gustar and similar verbs (encantar, molestar, interesar, etc.) require a special construction where the thing being liked is the subject of the sentence, and the person who likes it is the indirect object. Sometimes, to emphasize who likes something (or just for clarity), you can add:

EXAMPLES
- A mí me gusta la música = I like music
- ¿A ti te gusta correr en el parque? = Do you like running in the park?
- A Eduardo le gusta leer = Eduardo likes reading
- A ellos les gusta el español = They like Spanish
- A ellas les encanta viajar = They love traveling

Write them out, then check them with your teacher. Present them to a friend, teaching your friend any new Spanish, and making sure they learn it!
