REGULAR SPANISH VERBS IN THE PRESENT TENSE

In the present tense, all regular verbs follow predictable patterns of endings depending on:

  • The subject pronoun (yo, tú, él, ella, usted, nosotros, vosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes)
  • The type of verb (-ar, -er, -ir)
Subject-ar ending-er ending-ir ending
yo-o-o-o
-as-es-es
él/ella/usted-a-e-e
nosotros/as-amos-emos-imos
vosotros/as-áis-éis-ís
ellos/ellas/ustedes-an-en-en

Look for similarities and differences in the verb endings.  Look at:

  • the last letter or letters
  • the vowels
  • the subject pronouns that are exaclty the same
  • the subject pronouns where two or three are completely different.
