A simple dialogue
Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue. Write it out and perform it.
- Ana, do you want this green purse?
- I have a purse. I don’t need a new one.
- But this purse is very pretty, and big too.
- I want some small t-shirts.
- Where do you buy your t shirts?
- I buy clothes from second hand shops, and online from marketplace apps.
- Don’t you buy new clothes?
- I sometimes buy new clothes for work.
- Are the clothes you are wearing today new or second hand?
- The trousers, socks and knickers are new. Everything else is second hand.
Use these phrases to translate the dialogue.
¿Dónde compras tus camisetas?
¿La ropa que usas hoy es nueva o de segunda mano?
¿No compras ropa nueva?
A veces compro ropa nueva para el trabajo.
Ana, ¿quieres esta cartera verde?
Compro ropa en tiendas de segunda mano y en línea desde aplicaciones de mercado.
Los pantalones, calcetines y bragas son nuevos. Todo lo demás es de segunda mano.
Pero esta cartera es muy bonita y grande también.
Quiero unas camisetas pequeñas.

DESCRIBING WORDS
Adjectives in Spanish agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe.

Adjectives in Spanish tend to come after the nouns they describe.
- Un vestido elegante = An elegant dress
- Una corbata bonita = A pretty tie
- Unos zapatos caros = Some expensive shoes
- Unas carteras rojas = Some red purses
Memorize these sentences.
- El vestido es rojo = The dress is red
- La camisa es bonita = The shirt is pretty
- Los pantalones son grandes = The trousers are big
- Las camisetas son pequeñas = The t-shirts are small
Adverbs enhance adjectives.
- Muy = Very
- Demasiado = Too
Adverbs are generally invariable, which means they do not change form to agree with the gender or number of nouns, unlike adjectives.
- El vestido es muy caro = The dress is very expensive
- La camisa es demasiado cara = The shirt is too expensive
- Los zapatos son demasiado grandes = The shoes are too big

Write short sentences. Keep them as simple as you can.
Use a translation tool to put them into Spanish.
Write them out, then check them with your teacher. Present them to a friend, teaching your friend any new Spanish, and making sure they learn it!
