A simple dialogue

Use the Spanish phrases to translate the English dialogue.  Write it out and perform it.

  • Good afternoon. 
  • A table for two please.
  • Your table is here.  Is it alright?
  • It is great, thank you.
  • What do you want to drink?
  • Two glasses of orange juice.
  • What do you want to eat?
  • For me, a hamburger and salad.
  • For my friend, a cheese sandwich.
  • Is that everything?
  • A bottle of water too please.
  • I want to pay the bill. Thank you.  Goodbye.

DE = OF OR FROM

De is used to show what something is made of or contains.

  • Un sándwich de queso = A cheese sandwich
  • Una hamburguesa de pescado = A hamburger of fish
  • Un vaso de jugo = A glass of juice
  • Jugo de naranja = Orange juice

De has multiple uses, including possession.  In Spanish, there is no possessive ‘s, and de is used instead.

  • My mother’s glass = El vaso de mi madre

We can easily imagine a phrase where the word de is used multiple times.

  • El vaso de jugo de naranja de mi madre = My mother’s glass of orange juice.

NUMBERS 1 – 10

Numbers are very important.  Learn them so you can recite them forwards, backwards, and in a random order.
